Is 2023 The Last Year Of The Playstation 4?

The PlayStation 4 has been one of Sony’s most successful consoles in recent years, but it seems we are seeing its final years. In 2023, Sony decided to focus on developing games and features for the PS5, leaving PS4 owners wondering if it was time to upgrade.

PC has always seemed like the destination for all console games. The more powerful spec PCs enable mean gamers to have a much better experience. The PS5 has done enough to leverage specs and squeeze out as much performance as possible from its hardware to replicate parts of the PC experience. Nowadays, though, mobiles might be enough. PlayStation’s turn to mobile gaming has been notable. Online casino providers were among the first to showcase their power, now creating dedicated apps to service their customers, with brands like 32red ensuring that the 32red withdrawal time remains low via its usual variety of payment methods and that its games are optimized.

If you are one of those owners and want to know what is going to happen to your PS4, then read on, as we will give you some insight into the status of the PS4.

The Long Journey Of The PS4

Launched in 2013 as a successor to the PS3, the PS4 had much more powerful hardware with an 8-core AMD CPU and 8 GB of RAM for graphics processing. The console came in two models, a cheaper 500 GB version and another with a 1 TB hard drive; you could also install an SSD to improve performance, but the difference wasn’t very impressive.

PS4 Success

Thanks to the improved capacity of the PS4, the console had some of the best games of all time including Red Dead Redemption II, and The Witcher 3.

Over the years, the console received two revisions. The first was a smaller version called PS4 Slim, and the second was the PS4 Pro, which was a bit more powerful. Sony also released many successful PS4 exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War.

Thanks to its flexibility and powerful hardware, The PS4 outsold the Xbox One and the Nintendo’s Wii U, making it more successful than the PS3. By 2019, the PS4 became the second best-selling console of all time, surpassed only by the PS2.

What Is Going On With PS4 Right Now?

With the launch of the PS5, Sony announced that it would finish the production of PS4 models in Japan, except for the PS4 Slim. But, this transition never happened as Sony couldn’t produce enough PS5, forcing the company to make more PS4 to keep up with the demand.

Unfortunately, this forced developers to make games for both PS4 and PS5, leading to performance drops and other issues. One of the most infamous cases was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, which was severely critiqued for its poor performance and issues.

What Will Happen With The PS4?

One of Sony’s latest teasers featured 23 upcoming games for PS4 and PS5. Out of all the games shown, only eight will be released for PS4, indicating that the console will have a few new games during 2023.

In addition to this, the PS4’s owners won’t be able to experience many exclusive games like Final Fantasy XVI and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which were announced last year as PS5 exclusives. However, this doesn’t mean that the PS4 is dead yet.

During this year, the console will still receive support and new titles like Monster Hunter Rise and Hogwarts Legacy. The PS4 will likely be discontinued between 2024 and 2025, so if you want to enjoy your console, you still have time to do it.
