How to convert your Loft Space

The loft is a widely under-utilized space in UK properties. It sits above the house, collecting dust and storing old Christmas decorations from years past. You could make the most out of this space and turn it into a spare bedroom, second living room, or bathroom. You can drastically increase the value of your home with a loft conversion and your living space. What’s not to love?

Well, unfortunately, loft conversions in the UK are quite expensive and messy. If your home is already finished, a loft conversion could damage your interiors and produce a lot of dust. There are ways to mitigate these risks through plastic sheeting and clever construction.

Here are a few ways you can convert your loft space into a spare bedroom.

Implement organization

You need to decide on a purpose for the space. It can be tempting to fill the space with random items with no organization whatsoever. You need to organize your belongings and streamline anything that already sits in the loft. Get rid of old Christmas decorations and broken bikes from decades ago. There won’t be as much space for miscellaneous items once the loft is converted.

Think about how much storage you will need in the room and where it can go. You still need a place to store decorations, seasonal items, and suitcases.

Install wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes are a great storage solution, and they don’t take up too much room. You can store clothing and other items in the wardrobes while utilizing all of the space available.  Loft conversions often have awkward angles, tight spaces, and short heights. Your bespoke wardrobes can fill the space and blend seamlessly into the wall.

Choose to floor

You need to ensure proper underlay is installed on the loft floor. The loft resides over the entire house, and you will be able to hear footsteps above. Underlay can squash the sound and keep your home nice and quiet.

Install windows

A bedroom needs to have natural light, so think about where windows can go in your loft. The style of windows will be largely dependent on the shape of the roof and the budget available. You could look into a dormer to expand the room and provide extra head height. Sunlight will open up the room and make it feel much more homely.

Make your loft conversion a dreamy oasis resting above the hustle and bustle of the home.
